Today is the first day working at my "new" job. Yep - I've offically quit my day job and will be giving my side project my full & undivided attention going forward.
This last year and a half working as a Rocket Internet venture CTO has been an incredible learning experience in ecommerce. But I've come to realize that what I love is crafting software, and since I think the ecommerce space is a tremendous place to be right now then it makes sense to me to bring those two things together.
I'll be trading as the Ecommerce Outfitters with a mission of providing apps on top of hosted ecommerce platforms (e.g. Shopify). Initially I'll be focussing on BookThatApp where we are seeing good traction, and it is a good challenge from a technical point of view to make real time booking software scale. Beyond that I have lots of ideas for things I'd love to build.
It's hard to explain the feeling of satisfaction you get when you've built something fast and reliable that customers love. That is what I want to build but achieving it is no easy feat when you need to balance the commercial realities of getting your software out there and working for you. This is the challenge I've signed up for, and I'm looking forward to it. I'm pumped!
